Calculators
Triglyceride HDL-C Index
About
This simple calculation offers a broader picture than individual triglyceride or HDL-C levels:
- Triglycerides: High levels are often associated with insulin resistance, where your body struggles to use insulin effectively, leading to high blood sugar.
- HDL-C ("good" cholesterol): Helps remove LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol) from your blood, offering some protection against heart disease.
By analyzing both, the THI provides a deeper insight into your metabolic state:
- Lower values (generally below 2.0 - 4.0, depending on sources) suggest a healthier metabolic profile and lower risk of future health problems.
- Higher values (above 4.0 - 6.0) may indicate an increased risk for conditions like insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and even cardiovascular issues.
Interpreting your THI:
- Remember, the THI is not a diagnostic tool and should be interpreted alongside other health factors and clinical evaluations.
- Consult your doctor to discuss your score and develop personalized strategies for managing your metabolic health.
